The Truth About Working From Your Laptop

Is it all hype? So many emails promise instant success from internet marketing and working from home. Some state that if you buy from them or sign up for their monthly subscription, you will achieve riches beyond your wildest dreams. Sounds great, doesn't it? Well is it true? Can someone open up their computer, quit their day job and take on the world of online business?

I know hundreds of people that would answer a definite YES to that question. It is not all fraud and hoaxes. People are truly earning six and seven figure incomes from the comforts of their laptop. The problem is most people want fast and easy success. This is where the myth comes in to play. Any successful internet marketer will quickly state that the online business takes a huge learning curve to overcome and master.

The work is tedious and stressful and is by no means easy to come by for most (there are those select few that just "get it" right from the start). If your anything like me, education didn't come with ease. I struggled in school mostly because paying attention was challenging. I tended to drift off thinking how I was going to make any serious money instead of focusing on the basics of education. This is the problem for a lot of people. They want the successes associated with business ownership but fail to understand that with any business, online or offline, education is crucial. Working from your laptop can be gratifying and will generate a nice living financially, but don't expect some push button, get rich now scheme to do it for you.

As with any business, there is research involved. There are questions that must be asked before committing your time and money to any new venture. There are thousands of niches online. What are you going to sell, promote or service? What's the competition doing to generate leads and traffic? What systems are already in place for you and do they work? Who can you turn to when problems arise? Basically, how does one get started?

Becoming part of an online forum focused on your niche is a good place to start. You'll be able to interact with others and get your questions answered. Some forums offer advice from industry experts. One must beware of those making false claims though. Many will say they are experts just for the sake of getting you to buy what they are selling or "opt-in" to their mailing list so they can plug up your inbox with affiliate offers.

Do the research. "Not all that shines is Gold". The internet is full of information and full of people who have no problem professing their grievances, likes and dislikes online. A simple visit to Google or any other search engine will surely produce results relating to any question you may have. Always remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Another good source of information are the ezine directories. There are plenty of articles written by people that don't even do business online. They just want to share valuable information so that others can benefit.

Just like mom use to say, "proceed with caution". As with any business, there will be obstacles and brick walls to overcome. But if your research and willingness to educate yourself is high, success will surely follow.

With any business start-up, asking the right questions upfront, can save you loads of grief and can help you avoid obstacles so you can ultimately earn a good living.
